A decadent cake that's worth the effort...

Recipe
Inside-Out German Chocolate Cake

Are you planning a special Valentine's Day evening for someone? I have just the thing for you! I'm a bit late in blogging about this cake...my uncle requested it for his birthday on Christmas Eve. When he asked for a German chocolate cake for his birthday, I was very apprehensive...I'd never made a German chocolate cake before! Since it was for my favorite uncle (who happens to be quite a foodie himself), I wanted it to be really special. I asked for help from my friends on the CLBB, and came up with this recipe for Inside-Out German Chocolate Cake (inside out because the filling on the inside of this cake is typically the frosting on the outside of traditional German chocolate cakes). This. Cake. Was. Fabulous. Incredibly beautiful and rich in flavor...and totally worth all the effort it took to put it together. I had lots of help from Dariush with this baking project, so he gets a lot of credit, too. We had fun making it - and even more fun eating it. This cake is one of things I'm most proud of pulling off. Thanks for giving me a reason to make it, Uncle Thom!

Holy moly, Elisabeth! I literally gasped when I saw this picture. It looks FABULOUS! German chocolate cake (or actually, my mom's interpretation of it, which strangely enough had no chocolate, but was a spice cake iced with a caramel coconut frosting) was--and is--my dad's b'day cake of choice, and I've often thought about trying something like this. But I'm such a God-awful baker that I've always been too intimidated. So now I'll have to try your recipe! Yea!

Lia - your mom's version of German chocolate cake sounds really good! I hope you get to try this...I'm glad someone is as excited about it as I was. :)

Nicol - thanks for the comment! I can't wait to try this again for PTP's very special chef in June. :)
