On the Bacon Bandwagon

Recipe
Bacon-Wrapped Dates

These dates were the one new appetizer I tried out for Thanksgiving, and they were so popular that I was barely able to sneak in a picture of the last few that were left before they were all gone! There's not much of a recipe, here - just pitted dates wrapped in half a slice of bacon each, then baked in the oven for 10 minutes or so. I generally get into more fussy, complicated appetizers, and this is by far the easiest thing in my party repertoire. The dates get nice and gooey as they warm in the oven, and salty bacon acts as the perfect complement to their sweetness. These are so delicious, and so easy to make, that I (somewhat embarrassingly) made some for a snack for Dariush and I on a quiet night at home last week, and we ate them all by ourselves. (Seriously, nothing says "indulgent" like making yourself a plate of cute little appetizers when you know full well that you've got no one coming over and nothing to do - kind of ridiculous, but I can't wait to do it again.) Even if you're not a big fan of dates (I'm really not, myself), I'm pretty sure you'll still love these because, really, bacon makes just about anything taste good. If you're looking for a new holiday appetizer recipe, I highly suggest you put these on your list. Once you're on the bacon bandwagon, you'll never want to jump off.

Last year at this time...Creamy Shrimp and Gruyere Pasta and Chocolate Deli Cake.

I agree with you -- bacon makes just about anything better. I'm not a fan of dates, but I do like those appetizers!

I love that you made a plate appetizers for yourselves! It would also go so nicely with a green salad with goat cheese.

And did you know just how hip your choice of bacon is?

Tracy, bacon really is the magical ingredient, isn't it? I really didn't like dates at all...that is, until I had these wonderful little things. Hooray for bacon!

Carrie, I have been hearing a lot lately about bacon being the new big thing. I actually tried the Vosges Chocolate Bar with Bacon a couple weeks ago...have you had it?
