Holiday Dessert Wrap-Up, Part I

Recipe
Cranberry Chocolate Tart

My sister hosted our family's Christmas Eve celebration this year, and we had a wonderful time (thanks, Anna!). I was tasked with dessert, and as soon as I saw this beautiful recipe in Bon Appetit, my heart was set on making tarts for Christmas. Tarts, in general, are such a pretty dessert, and this particular tart was no exception: it was so lovely, I almost didn't want to cut it up! It starts with a rich, dark chocolate crust, which perfectly complements the next layer - a smooth, just-barely-sweet mascarpone cream (not the same kind of sugary sweet as more typical pastry creams - just a hint of sweetness here), and finally, finishes off with a layer of tart, cooling cranberries. The cranberry layer is held together with gelatin, but vegetarians and vegans take heart: I made this with a kosher, vegan-friendly gelatin , and it worked just fine. This tart was the perfect end to our festive evening together...I can't wait for an excuse to make it again. Of course, being the over-the-top dessert aficionado that I am, I wasn't satisfied with only making one tart for Christmas...I had to make two (hey, people need choices!). Stay tuned for the lovely Coconut Cream Tart that accompanied this one - I'll be posting soon!

Last year at this time...Garlicky Green Beans and Barbecue Roasted Salmon.

This looks absolutely gorgeous, Elisabeth! And easy enough that I might even be able to pull it off ;-). My mouth is watering . . .

Lia, it really wasn't hard at all. I know you're not a big dessert person...this went great with a nice full-bodied red wine, though! :)

These tarts were fantastic. They were both very rich and fancy - beautiful!
