Stovetop "Baked Beans"

1 tablespoon butter
1 1/4 cups onion, chopped
3/4 cup green bell pepper, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon barbecue smoked seasoning (I use Hickory Liquid Smoke)
2 teaspoons mustard
16 ounces red beans, drained and rinsed
16 ounces Great Northern beans, drained and rinsed
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
Add onion, pepper, and garlic; saute 4 minutes.
Stir in all remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes (or longer - the longer they cook, the thicker the sauce will become), stirring occasionally.
