So Many Things to Love in These Cookies...

Recipe
Double Chocolate Cherry Cookies

Chocolate, cherries, red wine...I just don't think you could possibly fit more things I love into one tiny little package than you can with these cookies! I made these to take along on our last weekend camping trip after reading about them on Cookie Madness, and I do believe they are just about the most delicious thing that has ever accompanied anyone, anywhere on a camping trip. Chocolate cookies with dark chocolate chunks baked in are fantastic in their own right, but this particular recipe takes it to the next level with tart dried cherries (which perfectly complement dark chocolate, in my humble opinion). These cookies get even better because they have red wine - yes, red wine - stirred into the dough! Seriously, how great is that? In the final baked product, you can taste just a hint of red wine in the cookies - especially when you bite into a cherry - but a hint is just enough to add the extra layer of flavor that make these cookies really stand out. We didn't have any wine with us when we were camping, but we did eat all the cookies (shocking, I know), so I'm anxious to try these again at home when I can have a glass of wine along with them and see if that brings out the flavor even more. This recipe was a finalist in Food Network's Ultimate Cookie Recipe Showdown - I haven't tried any of the other finalist recipes, but I'm can't believe this didn't win: they really are that good.
